Meet Your Trauma Therapist
Meghan Hanes, LCSW
Trauma ⎸ Substance Use ⎸ EMDR
Trauma can quietly shape how you think, feel, and cope—often long after the event itself has passed. You may know why you feel the way you do, yet still feel stuck in patterns that don’t reflect who you truly are. When trauma coexists with substance use, anxiety, mood disorders, or other concerns, healing can feel overwhelming.
You’re not broken—and you don’t have to face this alone.
Welcome! My name is Meghan. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and EMDR-trained therapist providing trauma-informed therapy for adults in Oregon. My work focuses on helping individuals heal from trauma and navigate the complex relationship between mental health and substance use.
Many of the people I work with feel stuck in trauma—replaying the past, reacting in ways they don’t fully understand, or feeling hijacked by anxiety, shutdown, anger, or emotional overwhelm. You might notice yourself turning to substances, overworking, numbing out, or other coping strategies just to get through the day—even if they no longer feel helpful.
Therapy with me focuses on understanding why these patterns exist, not judging or forcing change. Using EMDR and trauma-informed talk therapy, I help clients process unresolved experiences, reduce intense nervous system responses, and build safer, more sustainable ways to cope—without taking away what’s helped you survive.
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and paced to your nervous system. The goal isn’t to relive trauma, but to help your body and mind feel more regulated, present, and in control so you can move forward with greater clarity and calm.
My practice is fully virtual, and I work with adults ages 18 and older living in Oregon.
Who I Work Best With
You may be someone who:
Carries a lot of responsibility and rarely lets things drop
Overthinks conversations long after they’re over
Feels internally wired but physically exhausted
Struggles to rest without guilt
Questions your relationship with alcohol or other coping behaviors
Has a history of trauma, chronic stress, or emotionally unsafe relationships
Wonders if “it wasn’t that bad”… but your body still reacts like it was
Feels curious about exploring past experiences (childhood, family dynamics, relational trauma, medical trauma, or other events) and how they shaped your nervous system
Notices patterns like people-pleasing, overfunctioning, control, hypervigilance, or shutdown — even when life is stable now
Feels stuck in survival mode, even when nothing is “wrong” on paper
Many of the adults I work with are successful, thoughtful, and self-aware. They’ve read the books. They understand their patterns intellectually. But insight alone hasn’t shifted the nervous system responses underneath.
You don’t have to be in crisis to explore trauma. Sometimes the work is simply naming what you’ve minimized, understanding what your system adapted to, and creating new options that feel safer and more sustainable.
If you’re looking for trauma therapy, EMDR therapy, or substance use support in Oregon and want a therapist who can help you explore past trauma gently and at your pace, we may be a good fit.
